How We Build Successful Websites

Project Overview

With each web design project, we follow a straightforward process from onboarding to launch. This structure allows us to focus on delivering the right outcomes at the right time with your approval before next stages. It’s the best way to guarantee a smooth journey and an outstanding result.

The General Flow

Our primary goal is to make this a collaborative and transparent process. We provide clear updates at each major milestone so you know exactly what to expect, what we’re working on, and what’s coming up next.

I. Onboarding

To get started, we will first need the essential administrative details such as contact person, brand assets and your must-have requirements.

II. Strategy

The discovery phase is where we get together with you and your team to learn as much as we can about your business, brand and the project ahead. We will put together the brief and deliverables in a document (Statement of Work) for approval before working on next steps.

III. Planning

Strategy provides the “why” and overall direction, while planning provides the “how” to achieve it. Here, we define your website by planning its skeleton, parts and organs. In other words, we will be working on organising your sitemap, content, page templates, components and all functionalities required.

IV. Designing

Now that we’ve cracked the content phase, we’re ready to rock and roll into design. Following your branding guide, references and requirements, we will translate the brief into the first pages of your site. Once these are approved, we will move onto the rest of the page template designs.

V. Developing

With your confirmed designs in hand, we’re ready to execute your ideas and develop your website for launch. This includes one round of revisions to iron out any functionality issues or CMS questions.

VI. Launch

With approval of the development phase, we’re ready to roll when you are. Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance to go-live on your chosen date. We strongly recommend that you don’t make any big announcements or coordinate any marketing activities to happen on the go-live day. It’s best to get the site up, make sure everything’s running smoothly, and wait a day or two to be sure before announcing to the world you’ve got a shiny new website.

Warranty

Our standard policy is to provide a 30 day period post launch date where we fix any bugs at no additional cost.

Strategy & Planning

The Strategy Phase of a new website project is all about getting to know you, the problems we're looking to solve together, and the opportunities we're looking to maximise; and then to formulate a plan for how to deliver it all!

Think of the following:

    • What does your ideal customer look like?
    • How do you fit in your market landscape?
    • What are your goals for the project?
    • Do you have any brand references?

Once we have a better understanding of your goals and vision for the project, we’ll put together a Statement of Work (SOW). This document goes into detail on the specific inclusions and exclusions for each stage and covers any additional requests discussed.

Project Timings

A common question at the start of each project is how long it will take. Below we’ve listed the stages of the project and general duration taken based on past projects.

  • Discovery & Information Gathering (1 Week)
  • Content, Site Structure & Feedback (2 Weeks)
  • Design, Development & Feedback (4 Weeks)

Project Delays

While there are plenty of things that play a part here which can cause dates to shuffle, the number one blocker we encounter is slow feedback and delays in getting information we need. We flag the importance of this early on so we can move as quickly as possible.

Planning The Process

Building the site structure and content is a collaborative process between both parties. In this phase, we will define and sign off the following:

  • Site map & structure
  • Page templates needed
  • Final content for each page
  • All functions required

What’s Included

The standard inclusions for this phase are:

  • A sitemap showing the overall structure of the site 1 round of revision)
  • A wireframe for each page template (not each page, 2 rounds of revisions)

Designing & Developing

Now that we’ve cracked the content phase, we’re ready to rock and roll into design. At this stage, we work with your branding guide, references and requirements to translate your project brief into the first pages of your site.

Once these are approved, we will move on to the rest of the page template designs.

What’s Included

The standard inclusions for this phase are:

  • Design for each page template (not each page)
  • 2 rounds of revisions

What’s Not Included

While we always strive to go the extra mile, there are a few things that generally aren’t included in this phase:

  • Stock photo or font costs
  • Photographer costs
  • Scheduling plugins
  • Additional rounds of revision

Once this stage is signed off, any changes to the design or major content changes will be out of scope, so it’s crucial you review each piece of design in detail.

Developing Your Website For Launch

With your confirmed designs in hand, we’re ready to execute your ideas and develop your website for launch. This includes one round of revisions to iron out any functionality issues or CMS questions.

Launch & Grow

With approval of the development phase, we’re ready to launch whenever you are.

We have always found this is plenty of time to iron out any kinks, but it’s also a good reminder for you to thoroughly check all pages, links and functions of your site. Flag any issues you find and we’ll keep a list to make sure they all get taken care of.

What if I encounter a bug after this time?

For anything picked up beyond the warranty period, we would need to charge for any additional technical support – unfortunately it’s the nature of the ever evolving web that we cannot provide an open ended period to our included support, but rest assured we always build our sites to a high standard for stable performance going forward.

An example of a bug might occur after the 30 day period is a plugin or add-on may have an update which causes a conflict with another plugin or the framework your site is built in may change their standards which causes an issue with code built on the old standards.

Anyway, enough of the technical stuff – enjoy the new site and keep us updated with how it’s going!
